On
September 24th 2018, my friends presented their poster for their project on reading
class. My lecturer informed my friends before to make a poster based on a
classic story. Before they created a poster, they had to read the classic
stories, made a design and transformed into a poster. Not only made a poster,
but there were 2 groups had to make a slide too. The slide contains
participants, settings include time and place, moral value, and summary of the
story. For those groups they had to read “The signalman” by Charles Dickens.
There were five
groups with different stories and poster too, of course. For this special
event, my lecturer did interviews with all the groups. I and my friends will be
report about the interview. There were The Magic Shop, The Happy Prince, The
Gift of the Magi, Rip Van Winkle, and B24. In this section I just report the
happy prince story, and for the rest of the story will be written by my
friends. So don’t forget to check our blog for another post, okay!
The group that
consists with five members made a poster based from The Happy Prince story. So, based on interviews the happy prince was the story that is written by Oscar Wilde. First published
in May 1888. The story begins with there was a happy prince who lived in the
palace where sorrow is not allowed to enter. He only knows about beautiful
things. One day, the happy prince died, and his family made a statue of him and put it on
the tall column.
One night, there
was a swallow alighted just between the feet of the statue. But, when the
swallow wanted to sleep, he felt wet. After that, he realized the statue cried.
So the bird asked the statue, why he cried. The statue cried because many
people were sad. The happy prince never known about all the sorrow that
happened to his people. So, the happy prince asked the swallow to help him
because he wanted to help his people so they could be happy again. The happy
prince asked the swallow to take the great ruby, sapphire, and gold on his body
and gave to his people.
Every time, the
swallow wanted to go back to Egypt, the happy prince always asked the swallow
to stay with him for a day. Until, the happy prince requested the swallow to
take the sapphire on his eyes and the swallow decided to not go back to Egypt.
Because, the swallow wanted to be the happy prince's eyes. After that, the
swallow died because the coldness of the winter. Before he died, the swallow
kissed the happy prince. The happy prince’s heart broken apart.
After that, the
swallow and the leaden heart were bringing to the God. The God said in the God
garden of paradise the swallow shall sing for evermore, and for The God city of
gold, the happy prince shall praise the God.
In my opinion,
the way they were designing the poster it was really simple and nice so you can simply
understand the whole story. They were only drawing an important event at the poster. Like there
were a the happy prince, the statue (after the happy prince died) with the
swallow. Not only presented about the events, but they added the best quote
from the story.
“At that moment a curious crack sounded inside the statue, as if something had broken. The fact is that the leaden heart had snapped right in two. It certainly was a dreadfully hard frost” – The Happy Prince by Oscar Wilde
They said for
reading the story, they need five days and for designing the poster, they need
2 hours. I thought because the happy prince was kind of a classic story that
used many rarely sentences that they know so they had to read carefully.
So far, I really
proud of the great work of my friends. Good Job, friends!
